Cold-Weather Battery Charging

All three Wrenstead core system configurations use L1024 battery modules with low-temperature cell heating.

The heating function is designed to protect the battery cells from being charged below their permitted charging temperature.

  • Below 5°C: battery heating activates automatically when a compatible external charging source is connected.
  • Below 0°C: external input power is used to heat the battery cells first. The cells are not charged below 0°C.
  • At or above 0°C: battery charging can begin while heating continues.
  • At approximately 10°C: the heating function stops and normal charging continues.

The heating energy is supplied by the connected external PV or compatible DC charging input rather than being drawn from the battery's stored energy.

Important: -20°C is the specified lower discharge temperature, not the minimum charging temperature. The specified battery charging range begins at 0°C.

Already Have Solar Panels?

If your home already has solar panels, Store 1 or Store 2 may provide a route to adding battery storage without purchasing another complete solar package.

The correct configuration depends on your existing solar panels, inverter or microinverter, voltage and current characteristics, and the proposed electrical connection.

1.024kWh or 2.048kWh Battery Storage?

The principal difference between Store 1 and Store 2 is battery capacity.

Store 1 Store 2
Battery Modules 1 × L1024 2 × L1024
Nominal Storage Capacity 1.024kWh 2.048kWh
Low-Temperature Heating Included Included

Actual usable energy requirements vary by household and by the appliances or loads you intend to support. We therefore do not recommend choosing a battery solely from headline capacity.

How Wrenstead Energy Scheduling Works

Wrenstead systems support app monitoring and configurable charging and energy-use schedules.

You can configure preferred time periods according to your household routine or electricity tariff.

The system does not automatically retrieve live dynamic electricity tariffs or automatically select the cheapest electricity period.

Check Compatibility Before Ordering

Compatibility is especially important when adding battery storage to existing solar equipment.

Before ordering, information that may need to be checked includes:

  • Solar panel manufacturer and model
  • Number and power of installed panels
  • Panel voltage and current
  • Existing inverter or microinverter
  • Current electrical configuration
  • Proposed Wrenstead system

Installation & Connection

Connection requirements vary according to the property, existing solar equipment and final system configuration.

Do not assume that the same installation method applies to every UK home.
