Every home energy system is different. The correct way to install and connect Wrenstead battery storage depends on the solar equipment, electrical arrangement, Wrenstead configuration and intended equipment location at your property.
Wrenstead does not treat battery storage as a universal plug-and-play product.
Before equipment is connected, the existing system, installation location and appropriate connection route should be reviewed.
Your Installation Journey: Six Clear Steps
Plan the connection before ordering equipment. Wrenstead can help with supplied-product information; an appropriately qualified installer assesses the property and carries out the required electrical work. The network operator determines the applicable grid-connection process.
Prepare your system details
Identify your intended Wrenstead package. If you already have solar, gather panel and inverter model numbers, available installation records and photographs taken from a safe, accessible position.
Who: Customer, with the existing installer where needed.
Check compatibility
Ask Wrenstead about the supplied equipment and ask your installer to assess the complete proposed arrangement, including existing solar. Confirm any additional components needed before ordering.
Who: Customer, Wrenstead and installer.
Agree the installation plan
Have the installer assess the proposed location, mounting, environmental conditions, access, electrical protection and connection method. Confirm any property-owner permissions and agree the installation scope and cost.
Who: Customer and installer.
Confirm the network route
Ask the installer to check the relevant network operator’s requirements for the whole installation. Obtain any required permission before connection and agree who will submit the required documents.
Who: Installer or appointed applicant, with the network operator.
Install and commission
The installer follows the model-specific instructions, completes the applicable electrical checks and confirms operation of the agreed configuration. Do not substitute an app screen or this overview for installation testing.
Who: Appropriately qualified installer.
Set up the app and keep records
Once the system is ready for use, connect the supported app, review the displayed status and save your preferred schedules. Keep the handover documents and any required network confirmation.
Who: Customer with installer handover and product support.
How Is Wrenstead Battery Storage Connected?
There is no single connection method that applies to every UK home.
The correct arrangement depends on factors including:
- Whether solar panels are already installed
- The existing inverter or microinverter
- Solar panel voltage and current specifications
- The household electrical arrangement
- The Wrenstead system being installed
- The intended charging and energy-use configuration
- The proposed location of the battery and Smart Solar Hub
- The expected temperature conditions around the equipment
This is why Wrenstead recommends checking compatibility before installation rather than assuming that the same wiring, connection method or equipment location will work at every property.
Check your solar and storage compatibility
If You Already Have Solar Panels
Store 1 and Store 2 are primarily intended for households that already have compatible solar equipment and want to add battery storage.
However, having solar panels does not automatically mean that every battery system can be connected in the same way.
Your existing installation should be reviewed before the Wrenstead storage system is connected.
Useful information includes:
- Solar panel manufacturer and model
- Number of installed panels
- Panel wattage
- Existing inverter or microinverter model
- Available voltage and current specifications
- Photos of existing solar and electrical equipment
- Any available installation documentation
- The intended battery installation location
- Typical temperature conditions at that location
Wrenstead Store 1 Installation
Wrenstead Store 1 combines:
- 1 × H1600 Smart Solar Hub
- 1 × L1024 LiFePO4 battery module
- 1.024kWh nominal battery storage
- Low-temperature battery heating
- Approx. 95W heating power when heating is required
It is the compact entry-level storage option within the Wrenstead range.
The installation method depends on the existing solar and electrical setup at the property.
The H1600 should not be assumed to replace every existing inverter or to connect identically to every solar installation.
Wrenstead Store 2 Installation
Wrenstead Store 2 combines:
- 1 × H1600 Smart Solar Hub
- 2 × L1024 LiFePO4 battery modules
- 2.048kWh nominal battery storage
- Low-temperature battery heating
- Approx. 190W total heating power when both battery modules require heating
The installation principles are similar to Store 1, but the system provides twice the battery capacity.
Existing solar equipment, household electrical arrangement and proposed battery location should still be reviewed before installation.
Starting from Scratch with Solar + Store 2
If you do not already have a suitable solar installation, Wrenstead Solar + Store 2 provides a complete solar and battery storage starting system.
The package combines:
- 960W solar generation capacity
- 1 × LS-800Mi 800W microinverter
- 1 × H1600 Smart Solar Hub
- 2 × L1024 LiFePO4 battery modules
- 2.048kWh nominal battery storage
- Low-temperature battery heating
- Approx. 190W total heating power when both battery modules require heating
Because the solar generation and storage components are being considered together, the installation should be planned around the property rather than added to an unknown existing solar configuration.
Panel position, potential shading, electrical arrangement, battery location, expected environmental conditions and the intended system connection should all be considered before installation.

What Does the H1600 Smart Solar Hub Do?
The H1600 is the central energy-management component used in Wrenstead Store 1, Store 2 and Solar + Store 2.
It works with the connected L1024 battery modules and supports compatible solar charging, AC/grid charging with the required equipment and connection arrangement, and manually configured energy schedules.
The H1600 is not the battery itself.
The L1024 modules store energy, while the H1600 helps manage charging, battery operation and energy use within the supported Wrenstead system.

What Is the LS-800Mi Used For?
The LS-800Mi is the 800W microinverter included in the Solar + Store 2 package.
It forms part of the solar-generation side of that system.
Store 1 and Store 2 do not automatically include an LS-800Mi because they are primarily intended for customers who may already have compatible solar equipment.

Cold-Weather Installation Considerations
Wrenstead UK configurations use L1024 battery modules with low-temperature cell heating to support charging in cold conditions.
Low-temperature heating is automatic when a compatible external charging source is connected and the battery temperature falls below the heating threshold.
- Below 5°C: low-temperature battery heating activates automatically.
- Below 0°C: external input power is used to heat the battery cells first. The battery cells are not charged below 0°C.
- At or above 0°C: battery charging can begin while heating continues.
- At approximately 10°C: the heating function stops and normal charging continues.
Each L1024 battery module uses approximately 95W of heating power when heating is required.
Store 1 therefore uses approximately 95W, while Store 2 and Solar + Store 2 use approximately 190W total when both L1024 modules require heating.
The heating energy is supplied by the connected compatible external charging source rather than being drawn from the battery's stored energy.
The specified battery charging temperature range begins at 0°C. The -20°C figure is the lower limit of the specified discharge temperature range and should not be interpreted as a -20°C charging rating.
Low-temperature heating does not mean that equipment location and environmental conditions can be ignored. The proposed installation area should still be reviewed as part of the overall installation plan.
Can the Battery Charge from the Grid?
Yes. The H1600 supports AC/grid charging with the required compatible charging equipment and connection arrangement.
This gives users the option to configure battery charging during selected periods rather than relying exclusively on solar generation.
Charging periods are set manually according to the user's preferred energy routine or electricity plan.
Heating requires a compatible external charging source. Ask Wrenstead to confirm the charging equipment and connection required for your supplied configuration; AC/grid charging is not an instruction to connect mains electricity directly to a DC input.
Can Charging Be Scheduled?
Yes.
Users can schedule charging or energy use for their preferred time periods through the supported system controls.
The current Wrenstead system does not automatically retrieve live or dynamic UK electricity tariff information.
Customers therefore configure the appropriate time periods themselves according to their electricity plan.
Is Wrenstead Battery Storage Plug and Play?
Wrenstead does not describe its battery storage systems as universally plug and play.
The correct installation and connection method depends on the equipment and electrical configuration at each property.
Compatibility and installation requirements should be confirmed before the system is connected or commissioned.
Do I Need an Installer?
Ask an appropriately qualified electrical or solar installer to assess the connection requirements before ordering. Any work requiring professional electrical installation, testing or certification should be completed by a competent installer familiar with solar and battery systems.
Ask whether the installer can assess your existing equipment, verify the proposed Wrenstead configuration, handle the relevant network paperwork and provide a documented commissioning and handover process.
Agree the installation scope, any additional equipment, costs and responsibilities separately. Do not assume that buying a Wrenstead equipment package includes installation labour, a site survey or network-application services unless these are expressly included in your quotation.
We do not list an installer as a Wrenstead partner unless that relationship has been confirmed. If you need product documentation for your own installer, contact Wrenstead Energy.
Grid Connection: Check the Whole Installation
England, Scotland and Wales: the installer should check the relevant Distribution Network Operator (DNO) process for the proposed system, including existing generation and storage. G98 or G99 requirements may apply; additional export-limitation requirements may be relevant to the design.
Northern Ireland: check the applicable NIE Networks process and G98/NI or G99/NI requirements. Do not assume that a Great Britain form or equipment entry automatically establishes compliance for a Northern Ireland installation.
A model-specific G98 equipment record does not replace the property assessment, installation testing or any network application or notification. Battery capacity in kWh, solar-panel capacity in W and inverter output are different ratings. The installer must use the relevant ratings for the complete proposed design.
Ask the installer to confirm the applicable route, any permission needed before connection, and who will submit the required application or notification by the relevant deadline. Do not assume that an 800W microinverter or a low export setting removes these requirements.
Official guidance: Energy Networks Association — Distributed Generation Guide · NIE Networks — Distribution Code.
What Should Be Checked Before Installation?
Before installation, confirm as much of the following information as possible:
- Which Wrenstead system you are installing
- Whether existing solar panels are already present
- Solar panel make, model and wattage
- Number of installed panels
- Existing inverter or microinverter model
- Available voltage and current information
- Current electrical arrangement
- Intended location of the equipment
- Expected temperature conditions around the battery location
- Available access and space for installation and service
- Preferred battery capacity
- Preferred charging and energy-use schedule
Where Should the Equipment Be Installed?
The appropriate equipment location depends on the property, environmental conditions, electrical layout and installation requirements.
Do not choose a final equipment position based only on appearance.
The proposed battery location should be reviewed for appropriate space, access, environmental conditions and the requirements stated in the supplied product documentation.
Low-temperature battery heating provides additional support for cold charging conditions, but it does not remove the need to select an appropriate installation location.
Existing Solar vs New Solar Installation
| Situation | Recommended Starting Point | Key Installation Question |
|---|---|---|
| Existing compatible solar | Store 1 | How will 1.024kWh storage integrate with the existing system? |
| Existing compatible solar | Store 2 | How will 2.048kWh storage integrate with the existing system? |
| No suitable existing solar | Solar + Store 2 | How should the complete 960W solar and 2.048kWh storage system be installed? |
Installation Planning for Existing Solar
If solar panels are already installed, avoid making changes before confirming how the existing equipment works.
Prepare photographs and technical information for the existing panels and inverter or microinverter.
This helps identify whether additional equipment, a different connection arrangement or further installation work may be required.

Installation Planning for a Complete Solar + Storage System
For customers starting from scratch, the solar-generation and battery-storage components should be considered together.
Important factors include:
- Available solar panel installation area
- Panel orientation
- Potential shading
- Electrical configuration
- Equipment location
- Expected temperature conditions around the battery installation area
- Required storage capacity
- Connection and commissioning requirements
Commissioning and Handover
Before the system is handed over for normal operation, ask your installer to confirm the following for the agreed installation:
- The fitted equipment and battery-module count match the approved design and supplied documentation.
- The equipment location, mounting, access, connections, protection and isolation arrangements have been checked.
- The applicable installation tests have been completed and the results and required certificates are provided.
- Any permission required before connection has been obtained, and responsibility for remaining notifications is clear.
- The intended charging and output functions have been checked where operating conditions allow, and any outstanding checks are documented.
- You understand the operating controls, indicators, normal shutdown instructions and who to contact for help.
Do not assume backup power is available during a power cut. Only a specifically designed and verified arrangement can provide that function. The listed packages should not be treated as whole-home backup systems.
Set Up Monitoring After Installation
Use the Smart Life app setup guide once the installer has confirmed that the system is ready. Check the hub and battery status, review the displayed information and save the required manual schedules. An app connection alone does not prove that an electrical installation is correct.
Keep Your Installation Records
Keep the equipment model and serial details, purchase records, model-specific manuals, installer details, test and handover documents, and relevant network correspondence together. These help with future support or changes to the system.
Need Help After Installation?
For product support, send Wrenstead your order number, system model, a description of the issue and any relevant app error screenshot. Your installer should address questions about the property’s wiring or installation. Do not open or modify equipment to investigate a fault yourself.
